It was a great weekend for our
NS Bikes /
LamaCycles Distribution DH team in Bromont, Canada. Sam Thibault, Phil Ricard and Lucas Rey-Sierro did great by finishing on the podiums in their Elite and U17 Expert categories both on Saturday and Sunday.
Congratulations!
Here is a full race report:
Last weekend,
Ski Bromont, hosted the Quebec Championships on the opening weekend of the bike park instead of the usual time near the end of the race season. Surprisingly, this year, a new rule created by cycling federations obliged the QC Champs to take place before the Canadian Champs. Albeit this course was available to ride and practice on all summer last year, racers didn't get a chance to get some laps in this year with the later opening date of the resort. The track starts off with some tricky, rocky and slipperywoods sections and ends up in the waterpark at the base of the mountain where riders finish on pavement for the last 300 meters of the track (You read well...Pavement. See our
Instagram for a video of the finish line.)
On Saturday,
Maaxx Events, also organized the first round of their local series called the B-Maaxx Cup acting as a race-pace practice run for most riders since it was held on the bottom part of Sunday's race track. This enabled riders to practice the whole course during 3 days. Our riders started the weekend strong by finishing 1st and 3rd in the Elite category, while our U17 rider finished 3rd. These results were a premonition of the results of Sunday's race.
Sunday morning. The calm before the storm.
Unknown racer in the jungle.
Unknown cheering fan
On Sunday, things started quite hectically when Lama Cycles U17 rider Lucas Rey-Sierro got to his start literally 20 seconds before his scheduled race run. This unfortunate event probably tired him enough to lose his race focus. In the end, he finished 3rd, a little far from his main rivals. On the Pro side of things, Phil Ricard impressed everybody with a time of 3:30.48, enough to stay on the hot seat for a while. Last rider on track, Sam Thibault was the only one left who could bump him out of first place, which he did with a whooping time of 3:26.07. To LAMA teammates fighting for the QC champ title!
Happy Phil!
