Run to the Hills: Day 1 round up

So the first day of the XS Power Drink fuelled Run to the Hills is nearly done with, for some it will mean relaxing and checking over footage and shots from the day whilst for others it seems there is still work to be done! Lets have a butchers hook at what they have all been up to….

Is that Al Bond upside down?

Alarm clocks were set and 9:30 saw the first bit of Twitter action Sam Pilgrim andGrant Fielder from team Hotlines were off to meet the rest of their crew. Dirt jump action for day one saw the boys hit Lymington trails, time for the specialists to show the downhiller’s how it’s done, or was it the other way round?

Someone’s excited, Chopper and Pilgrim on route.

With the decision to hit the dirt jumps today there was enough time to grab some last minute street practice on route to the team photo spot.

Joe Smith gets his wheelies dialled and Chopper takes his new mini bike for a spin.

The guys were rained on pretty much all day but that didn’t stop them, even though they heard some teams were hanging out in cafés drinking tea (mention no names Team DMR) The guys weren’t exactly sure of tomorrow’s location when we spoke to them but no doubt they will be able to concoct something rad for the camera. Keep an eye on the old Twitter and the Dirt Facebook page to see what’s going on during the day. Onward!

Tea drinking, and waiting were the order of the day as Olly Wilkins described the start of the day as ‘well shit’. After a bit of a plan rethink for Team DMR they did get some riding done. Heading over to Hindhead they sent a few runs down the Punchbowl before heading back to a favourite local spot, the Johnpound for some dirt jump fun, is there a theme here?

Wilkins was more than stoked to get going on Run to the Hills.

With Fairclough and Reynolds on their way back from the Moto Cross of Nations it seems the only solution was to stay refreshed and dream of being away from the rainy UK. Ray Samson had his setup sorted taking on only the best hydration whilst Jacob from Aspect Media was in a dream land, thinking they had arrived somewhere other than a wet wood in Surrey, unless the team have something up their sleeves?

Just arrived at our first place to ride! Can’t wait. @AspectMedia

Apparently this is the first spot for Team DMR?

Ray Samson’s has got his sports nutrition sorted.

The team should have the full team onboard for a session at the JohnPound this evening and some of tomorrow. There’s a chance that Brendan and Sam will have taken some inspiration from the Moto racing and there could well be some petrol fuelled action going down tomorrow.

Line spotting on the North Irish coast.

Swooping in at the 11th hour the boys from the Dirt Norco team headed to the coast today. DH bikes were the order of the morning and Glyn O’Brien was on hand with the tools to put the spadework and get the tracks up to scratch. With the team being joined by their film maker at lunchtime, another attendee of the Moto of Nations he flew into Belfast in time to hook up with the team for the afternoon razzing.

Some pretty wild scenery up on the Irish coast, should make for some good shots.

After being shouted at by a local farmer it was time to jump back in the Dirt Team bus and head back South. With the weather turning it was time to put the big bikes away for the day and pull out the hardtails for a quick spin at a local dirt jump spot before heading to Ben Reid’s front garden pumptrack.

Final dirt jump spot for the day.

It looks like tomorrow might bring a bit of Moto action for more than one team. With Jordan Scott landing a spot on the Dirt Team it was bound to happen! Check back tomorrow to see what the boys get upto, last we heard they were in Frankie and Benny’s!

Following the newly formed tradition of day one dirt jumping in Run to the Hills the Saracen Team headed to their local spot with Matt Jones and Blake Samson to get everyone warmed up. With the dirt jumps being pretty local and Matt knowing them like the back of his spade he took some time out to train on his new bike, think he is taking some tips from Grant Fielder?

 Just call Matt Jones Scooter.

Having had some of the best weather at Woburn the team were coy about their manoeuvres tomorrow. The forecast is good and the team will be joined by the rest of the crew, Manon Carpenter and Sam Dale have been over at the IXS Cup and we know they are both up to speed on their DH bikes but what will tomorrow bring? There was some talk of a night shoot tonight but we’ll see what happens and try and get the lowdown from their photographer Laurence tomorrow.

Wonder what’s in the Hobby Craft bag then?

Only tomorrow will tell and all the teams will be heading off to new spots to ride and shoot. If you want a laugh then make sure to hit the #dirtrtth hashtag on Twitter for some top notch team banter, Team Hotlines and Team DMR are definitely ‘serious’ rivals. Until tomorrow!
